Why storage documentation matters

Research programs rely on knowing how a material was stored between receipt and use. Storage notes support audit trails, stability expectations under your SOP, and consistent handling across staff.

Catalog storage language describes intended conditions for lyophilized material. Your institution’s SOP still governs freezer assignment, monitoring, and solution preparation.

Receiving checklist (documentation)

At receipt, many laboratories record a short set of facts before the vial enters inventory.

  • Lot number and SKU match paperwork
  • Packaging integrity noted
  • Storage location / temperature assignment recorded
  • Certificate status (on file, pending, or escalate)

Lyophilized material — common catalog language

Many lyophilized research materials list frozen storage (often −20°C), protection from light, and protection from moisture. Treat those as catalog defaults unless a lot certificate or institutional SOP specifies otherwise.

Solution preparation, solvent choice, and concentration planning belong to institutional laboratory procedures—not storefront copy.
